Self-Injection Guide
1. Prepare the needle and site
Remove needle cover — be careful not to touch the needle. Use alcohol swabs to wipe the medication bottle top and your intended injection site.
2. Draw the medication
Draw medication into the syringe according to your prescribed unit dosage on the prescription label.
3. Position the syringe
Hold the syringe like a pencil and prepare to inject.
4. Pinch the skin
Gently pinch one to two inches of skin at the injection site with your free hand.
5. Insert the needle
Hold the syringe straight up from the injection site and insert using a quick motion. A slow push will cause more pain.
6. Inject the medication
Slowly inject by gently pushing the plunger until the syringe is empty.
7. Remove and apply pressure
Remove the needle gently but quickly and apply pressure with the alcohol wipe. Apply a bandage if necessary.
